The Swedish Minister showed archaeological finds at the site of the St. Petersburg “Okhta-the centre”

October 28, 2008. 18:07 — REGNUM, the Minister of foreign Affairs of Sweden Carl Bildt on October 28, inspected the territory of the planned construction of social and business district “Okhta-the centre” in St. Petersburg. As news Agency REGNUM in the press service of JSC ” Gazprom Neft “, the representatives of the company implementing the project, told the guests about the preparations for the construction, in which are conducted extensive archaeological research on the territory of the ancient fortress of Nyenskans.
Carl Bildt stated that it appreciated the importance of research, as it is at Okhta, on the territory of the ancient fortress of Nyenskans intertwined history of Russia and Sweden. He also expressed the hope that in the future, when the creation of the archaeological Museum in the framework of the project “Okhta-the centre” will have more opportunities to explore the history of settlements of the pre-Petrine time on the territory of St. Petersburg.
We will remind, the project of public-business district is implemented jointly by the city administration and OJSC “Gazprom Neft”. 51% of the “Okhta-center” will be paid for by the company “Gazprom Neft”, 49% – the administration of St. Petersburg. Ownership will be divided between the co-investors, respectively, the amount of funding.
According to the concept of the project the offices of Gazprom and its subsidiaries will occupy 16% of the total area of the district. 35% pomagajut to perform public functions, the remaining 49% – business centers. In territory “Okhta the centre” will include a theatre and concert hall, stadium, swimming pool, complex of gyms, linear Park zones, cafes, restaurants and the Museum of modern art and the St. Petersburg Museum of archaeology.
Recall also, the new archaeological Museum is expected to create based on an existing Museum “700 years – Landskrona, Nevskoye Ustye, Nyenskans” in the zone 2A of “Okhta-center”, as part of this zone is located on the territory of the discovered object of cultural heritage “of the Central part of the city of Nyen”. This will useefficiency of the excavations in this place. Work on the creation of historical and archaeological Museum on Okhta being the Northwest research Institute “Heritage” in cooperation with the city authorities and the Consulate of Sweden in St. Petersburg. The Museum will occupy about 2000 square meters.
